Purpose of this website
This website enables residents to report local issues and request assistance with councillor casework matters.
What information is collected
When you submit a report, the following information may be collected:
- Name
- Email address
- Telephone number (if provided)
- Description of the issue
- Address or location information (including map pin data)
- Any images or attachments you choose to upload
How your information is used
Your personal data is collected solely for the purpose of councillor casework. It will not be used for any other purpose including marketing, campaigning, party political activity, or sharing with third parties for commercial purposes.
Your information is used to:
- assess and understand the reported issue
- contact you where necessary in relation to your case
- raise the matter with Barnet Council or other relevant public bodies
- monitor and follow up on your case
Voice input (Speak to Write)
The reporting form includes an optional Speak to Write button that allows you to dictate your message using your device's microphone. This feature uses your browser's built-in speech recognition capability and is only activated when you click the button.
Depending on your browser, speech recognition may be processed by a third-party service. For example, Google Chrome routes audio to Google's speech recognition servers, and Microsoft Edge uses Microsoft's service. Audio is not recorded or stored by this website. You should review the privacy policy of your browser provider if you have concerns about how audio data is handled during speech recognition.
This feature will not activate if your browser does not support it, and it is entirely optional. You may type your message instead.
Case tracking
If you use the Track Your Report feature on the homepage, you will be asked to enter your case reference number and the email address you used when submitting your report. These details are used only to retrieve the status of your case and are not stored or logged as part of this lookup.
Sharing your information
Your information may be shared with Barnet Council, Barnet Homes, or other relevant public authorities where necessary to investigate and resolve the issue.
Legal basis
Personal data is processed under:
- public task (for councillor casework functions)
- consent (where applicable, such as optional contact details or attachments)
Cookies and local storage
This website uses cookies and browser local storage to maintain session security and, if you consent, to remember your preferences.
Essential cookies (always active)
The following are necessary for the website to function and cannot be disabled:
- CSRF token cookie — protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Set when any form page is loaded.
Preference storage (only if you accept cookies)
If you click Accept on the cookie banner, the following are stored in your browser's local storage:
- Dark mode preference — remembers whether you have switched to dark mode so the setting is retained between visits.
- Form draft — saves a partial draft of a report form as you type, so you do not lose your progress if you navigate away accidentally. The draft is cleared when you submit your report.
If you click Reject, preference storage is not used and any previously stored preferences are cleared. Essential session and CSRF cookies remain active regardless of your choice.
You can change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site.
Data storage and security
Your personal data is held securely and is only accessible to Councillor Matthew Perlberg. Appropriate technical and organisational measures are in place to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss or disclosure.
Retention
Information is retained only for as long as necessary to manage the case, comply with legal obligations, and maintain appropriate records.
